Hard drive shredding and ITAD for schools, districts, and universities
A district retires Chromebooks by the cart and a university retires research servers by the rack, and both hold records protected by FERPA, often HIPAA and GLBA too. We inventory, destroy on your campus, and recycle what is left.
What the rules require
- FERPA and PPRAStudent education records must be protected through disposal. A retired device with a student information system cache on it is a records exposure.
- HIPAA and GLBA on campusStudent health centers and financial aid offices carry PHI and financial data under their own rules, usually inside the same refresh.
- CUI in researchUniversities with defense or federal research hold CUI and sometimes classified data. Those systems follow NIST 800-171 or NSA/CSS 9-12 and get the matching treatment.
How we handle it
Summer is refresh season. We schedule campus visits when the building is empty, stage large fleets over consecutive days, and log by your asset tag so the certificate matches your inventory system.
Chromebooks and thin laptops have soldered storage, so they are destroyed whole rather than wiped and resold. Displays, chargers, and carts that never held data can be resold or recycled.
Research labs with federal grants get the CUI or classified handling their sponsor requires, at the same visit as the library's public PCs.

Do you handle Chromebook fleets?
Yes. Chromebooks have soldered storage, so they are disintegrated whole on the GigaBiter, logged by serial, and the carts and chargers recycled or resold.
Can you come during the summer break?
That is when most districts book us. Tell us the buildings and the count and we will stage it before the first day of school.
What about student health center and financial aid systems?
They carry PHI and financial data and get HIPAA and GLBA documentation on the same certificate.
Is there a minimum for a small district?
Not in our next-day metros. A single building's worth of devices is a job.
