CJIS-compliant media destruction for police, sheriffs, and courts
Criminal justice information, evidence, and body-camera footage retire on drives, tapes, and phones. The CJIS Security Policy requires disposal by authorized personnel with a record of it. We destroy at your sally port or evidence room, witnessed by your own officers.
What the rules require
- FBI CJIS Security PolicyMedia disposal must be performed by authorized personnel and documented, so that criminal justice information cannot be recovered from retired hardware. Witnessed physical destruction is the accepted method.
- State records retentionEvidence and case media may only be destroyed when the retention schedule and any litigation hold allow. Our log records the reason for release your records officer gives, so the certificate matches the schedule.
- NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2The federal baseline CJIS references for sanitization. Destroy is the method that ends the discussion.
How we handle it
Your officers witness every item go in, which satisfies the authorized-personnel requirement without anyone leaving the building. Two technicians handle every item and both are recorded on the log.
Body-camera storage, in-car video systems, interview-room recorders, and mobile data terminals all hold storage. We pull it, destroy it, and record the parent device as inspected.
For agencies with an evidence backlog, we can log by evidence number instead of asset tag so the certificate closes your chain-of-custody record line for line.

CJIS Security Addendum and fingerprinting
- Under the CJIS Security Policy, private contractors with access to criminal justice information sign the CJIS Security Addendum and undergo fingerprint-based background checks as the agency directs.
- Our model works the same way it does for classified media: the media stays in your custody and is destroyed under the supervision of your authorized personnel, so our technicians do not need access to CJI to do the job.
- If your agency requires the Security Addendum and fingerprint-based checks anyway, we will sign and our technicians will submit to them. All are U.S. citizens who have already passed a criminal background check.

Do our officers have to be present?
One does, and we recommend it. Witnessed destruction by your authorized personnel is what the CJIS policy contemplates, and it is what we do everywhere.
Can you destroy evidence media?
Yes, once your records officer or prosecutor authorizes release. We record the reason for release on the log and the evidence number if you want it there.
What about phones seized as evidence and now released for destruction?
Phones are disintegrated whole on the GigaBiter to 2 mm, storage and board together.
Do you serve small departments?
Yes. In our next-day metros there is no minimum, and a handful of drives from a village department can ride along with a county job.
Will you sign the CJIS Security Addendum?
Yes, if your agency requires it, and our technicians will submit to fingerprint-based background checks as your policy directs. Under our normal process the media stays in your custody and is destroyed under your authorized personnel's supervision, so access to CJI is not required.
